Goose Creek Environmental Restoration Project
The Goose Creek Environmental Restoration Project focuses on improving urban water quality by treating stormwater runoff before it reaches Goose Creek. The project includes reshaping streambanks, planting native vegetation, and installing bioretention cells and step pools to reduce flash flooding and enhance water quality. Additionally, a natural playscape and limestone trail are planned to encourage community engagement and environmental education.
Renewable Natural Gas Facility at Scott Area Landfill
A collaboration between Waga Energy, the Waste Commission of Scott County, and Linwood Mining and Minerals has led to the establishment of a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility at the Scott Area Landfill. Utilizing WAGABOX® technology, the facility converts landfill gas into RNG, producing over 205,000 MMBtu annually. This output is equivalent to 1.5 million gallons of diesel fuel and prevents approximately 15,800 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.
Davenport Compost Facility’s 30-Year Milestone
Celebrating 30 years of operation, the Davenport Compost Facility transforms organic waste into mulch and nutrient-rich gardening products. As Iowa’s first facility of its kind, it diverts yard waste from the Scott County Landfill, conserving landfill space and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
Levee System Enhancement at Water Pollution Control Plant
To mitigate flood risks, nearly $3 million has been allocated for constructing a levee system at Davenport’s Water Pollution Control Plant. This infrastructure aims to protect the plant during major flood events, ensuring uninterrupted operations and safeguarding the city’s water resources.
